This website is owned and operated by The Standard Microscope Emporium. By using this website you agree to the terms and conditions of business given below, which apply at the time of your order. We may change our terms and conditions at any time, therefore the same terms may not necessarily apply in the future. None of these terms affect your legal rights, and these are not diminished in any way. If any term is held to be invalid under any applicable statute or rule of law, that term is automatically omitted from the terms to the minimum extent necessary to comply with the law and without affecting the validity or enforceability of the remainder.

Our business hours are Mondays to Fridays from 09.00 hrs to 18.30 hours. Any telephone or e-mail messages received outside these hours will be replied to as soon as practicable from the next business day onwards.

2) Purchases

All our items are sold on a pre-payment basis only.

To make a purchase, please write to us, phone, send us an e-mail or go to the "Contact us" link on our website, specifying the item(s) you would like to order.

Telephone orders can be made using VISA or MasterCard credit or debit cards. Card payments are processed with PayPal Here technology.Your card details will not be stored by us in any form on this website or anywhere else.

You can also ask us to  send you a PayPal invoice by e-mail,  showing the total amount of your purchase and the shipping costs. PayPal invoices are due for payment within 3 working days. We may offer the item(s) you ordered to other customers if payment is not received within 3 working days. Items ordered in this way will normally be shipped to the buyer's registered PayPal address only.

We also accept personal cheques in GBP drawn on U.K. banks. If you wish to pay by cheque we will send you a Pro-Forma invoice, due for payment within 7 working days.  We may offer the item(s) you ordered to other customers if payment is not received within 7 working days. We will confirm your order as soon as possible after your cheque has cleared.

3) Shipping

Shipping is charged at cost. All items are shipped by insured-tracked post (Royal Mail, UPS or TNT Courier) only. We strive to offer the best available shipping costs in relation to the size, weight and value of the items you order.

In the case of pre-owned items we will normally dispatch your order to you within 3 business days of receiving cleared payment. We will inform you as soon as possible of any unforeseen delays.

International orders shipped outside the European Union will carry an indication of the full invoice amount, as required by international customs regulations. Customers will be responsible for paying any duties, taxes, fees and any other amounts required by their country's custom regulations.

By placing an order with us you agree that the carrier's  proof of delivery of your item(s) effectively confirms that the item(s) have been received by you.

In the unlikely event that your item(s) are lost, partially lost or damaged in transit you must contact us immediately for instructions,  quoting your Invoice Number.

4) Tax charges

No VAT is chargeable on our invoices (U.K. VAT taxable turnover exemption).

5) Privacy policy

Our website does not take or process customers' orders and no customer details are stored on it. Every time a customer places an order with us they will be dealing directly with our staff.  Card payments over the phone  are processed with PayPal Here technology. Customer card details will not be stored by us in any form on this website or anywhere else.

We do not disclose customers' information to third parties other than when order details are processed as part of the shipping process.

6) Cookies

Cookies are used on our website where they are necessary for site functionality, to aid navigation. Your browser's Privacy settings allow you to turn off cookies if you wish. If you do this the website features that use them might not work properly. By using our website you agree to our cookie policy.

7) Returns

All returned items must be in the same condition as when they were received by you.Our cancellation policy does not affect your rights when we are at fault.

If you change your mind for any reason, you are entitled to cancel your order and return the goods to us within a 14 working days "cooling off" period from when you receive the goods. We will issue a full refund, including the cost of delivery, within 30 days. You will be responsible for the cost and risk of loss or damage when returning the goods, so you should take out enough postal insurance to cover their value in full.

All our used items come with an additional 14 working days period during which you may also return the goods to us, for instance, in the unlikely event that you are less than 100% satisfied with your purchase for any reason. The same conditions and procedure as for the 14-day "cooling off" period apply.

All our new items are covered by the manufacturer's original warranty. In case of a fault arising during the warranty period of a new item bought from us, please contact us as soon as possible by e-mail or phone, quoting your Standard Microscope Emporium Invoice Number.

Under no circumstances do we take returns or provide warranty or technical support for Goren microscopes not bought from us.

8) Applicable law

The Standard Microscope Emporium is a U.K.-based business governed by U.K. Law.
